Selon l'AFP,, 13 civils auraient été tués par des bombardements turques dans l'enclave d'Afrin. Selon South Front, le 5 mars, le vice-premier ministre turc et porte-parole du gouvernement, Bekir Bozdag, a déclaré que près de la moitié de la zone visée par l'Opération "Rameau d'Olivier" à Afrin avait été capturée par les forces turques. "Dans le cadre de l'opération "Rameau d'Olivier", à ce jour, 112 villages, 30 positions critiques et un total de 142 spots ont été pris sous contrôle", a-t-il déclaré. La carte ci-dessous donne un aperçu général de la situation militaire dans la région syrienne d'Afrin. L'armée turque et les groupes militants soutenus par la Turquie ont encore progressé au nord et au nord-ouest de la ville d'Afrin, qui appartient au YPG. Cependant, ils n'ont même pas été en mesure de capturer près de la moitié d'une autre zone détenue par le GPJ dans le nord-est de la Syrie. Selon South Front, cela permet de suggérer que pour Bozdag les forces turques ne cherchent pas à s'emparer de la ville d'Afrin.

According to the AFP, 13 civilians were killed by Turkish bombardments in the enclave of Afrin. This allows to suggest that Bozdag’s statement considers that Turksih forces are not aiming to capture the city of Afrin.

Nach Angaben AFP, wurden 13 Zivilisten durch türkische Bombardierungen in der Enklave Afrin getötet. Laut South Front, am 5. März, sagte der stellvertretende türkische Premierminister und Regierungssprecher Bekir Bozdag, dass fast die Hälfte des Gebiets, das die Operation Olive Branch in Afrin anstrebt, von türkischen Streitkräften eingenommen wurde. In der Operation Olive Branch wurden bisher 112 Dörfer, 30 kritische Positionen und insgesamt 142 Spots unter Kontrolle genommen", sagte er. Die untenstehende Karte gibt einen allgemeinen Überblick über die militärische Situation im syrischen Gebiet Afrin. Die türkische Armee und von der Türkei unterstützte militante Gruppen sind weiter nördlich und nordwestlich der von der YPG kontrollierten Stadt Afrin vorgerückt. Allerdings ist es ihnen nicht gelungen, auch nur annähernd die Hälfte des YPG-Gebietes im Nordosten Syriens einzufangen. Dies lässt vermuten, dass Bozdag in seiner Erklärung der Ansicht ist, dass die türkischen Kräfte nicht darauf abzielen, die Stadt Afrin zu erobern.

2. Assad et Poutine véritables vainqueurs de l'opération turque à Afrin ?
Selon MEE, Assad et Poutine sont les véritables vainqueurs de l’opération turque à Afrin: "Alors que les ennemis de la Turquie, les YPG, paieront probablement un lourd tribut, il en sera de même pour les alliés de la Turquie, à savoir les rebelles syriens et les États-Unis". Ainsi la Russie, qui contrôle l’espace aérien dans l’ouest de la Syrie, a donné le feu vert à l’incursion de la Turquie, ayant besoin du soutien d’Ankara en vue des pourparlers de paix de Sotchi qu’elle était en train de négocier. Mais selon MEE, "la Turquie pourrait rester bloquée dans un bourbier de longue durée. Les effectifs de l’armée turque ont été épuisés par des purges lancées suite à la tentative de coup d’État avortée en 2016. L’opération Bouclier de l’Euphrate a mis sept mois à capturer un territoire moins montagneux qu’Afrin pour un coût humain d’au moins 70 soldats turcs et beaucoup plus de rebelles syriens". MEE rejoint les hypothèses de Moon of Alabama selon lequel Erdogan arrêtera son intervention armée à Afrin lorsque les Kurdes rendront le territoire sous leur contrôle au gouvernement syrien.

Aber laut MEE könnte die Türkei in einem langfristigen Sumpf stecken bleiben. Die türkische Armee war nach dem gescheiterten Putschversuch im Jahr 2016 durch Säuberungen erschöpft. Die Operation Euphratschild dauerte sieben Monate, um ein weniger gebirgiges Territorium zu erobern als Afrikanisch für einen menschlichen Preis von mindestens 70 türkischen Soldaten und viel mehr syrischen Rebellen. MEE stimmt mit Moon of Alabama's Hypothese überein, dass Erdogan seine bewaffnete Intervention in Afrin beenden wird, wenn die Kurden das Territorium unter ihrer Kontrolle an die syrische Regierung zurückgeben.
