Selon South Front, les 15 et 16 mars, les Forces armées turques (TAF) et l'Armée libre syrienne (FSA) ont capturé plus de 20 villages dans la région syrienne d'Afrin aux mains des unités de protection du peuple kurde (YPG). Selon des sources pro-turques, au total, les FAT et l'ASL ont capturé 210 villages ainsi que 43 montagnes et collines dans la région d'Afrin. Les FAT et l'ASL travaillent actuellement à isoler la ville d'Afrin, détenue par les YPG, dans les directions nord et nord-ouest. La route d'Afrin à Alep reste ouverte. Cela permet aux civils de fuir la ville assiégée. Selon l'OSDH citée par l'AFP, 30.000 civils auraient fuit la ville d'Afrin en 24h. Selon l'AFP, l'armée turque aurait demandé aux Kurdes d'Afrin de se rendre. l'AFP signale également que 18 civils auraient été tués le 16.03.18 lors d'un bombardement sur Afrin. Un hôpital aurait été également touché par des bombardements turques à Afrin. Il y aurait eu 16 morts selon l'AFP. Malgré un accord tacite entre Russes, Turques et Syriens, le porte.parole du président Erdogan a déclaré selon The Daily Sabbah qu'Afrin ne serait pas rendue à la Syrie.

According to South Front, on March 15 and 16, the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) captured over 20 villages in the Syrian area of Afrin from the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). According to pro-Turkish sources, in total, the TAF and the FSA have captured 210 villages as well as 43 mountains and hills in Afrin. The TAF and the FSA are now working to isolate the YPG-held city of Afrin from the northern and northwestern directions. The road from Afrin to Aleppo still remains open. Laut South Front,, am 15. und 16. März eroberten die türkischen Streitkräfte (TAF) und die Freie Syrische Armee (FSA) über 20 Dörfer im syrischen Gebiet Afrin von den Kurdischen Volksschutzeinheiten (YPG). Laut pro-türkischen Quellen haben die TAF und die FSA insgesamt 210 Dörfer sowie 43 Berge und Hügel in Afrin erobert. Die TAF und die FSA arbeiten nun daran, die von der YPG gehaltene Stadt Afrin von den nördlichen und nordwestlichen Richtungen zu isolieren. Die Straße von Afrin nach Aleppo ist immer noch offen. So können Zivilisten aus der belagerten Stadt fliehen. Laut der von der AFP zitierten OSDH flohen 30.000 Zivilisten innerhalb von 24 Stunden aus der Stadt Afrin. Nach Angaben AFP forderte die türkische Armee die Kurden Afrins auf, sich zu ergeben. AFP berichtete auch, dass 18 Zivilisten am 16.03.18 während eines Bombardements von Afrin getötet wurden. Berichten zufolge wurde auch ein Krankenhaus von türkischen Bombardierungen in Afrin getroffen. Laut AFP gab es 16 Tote. Trotz eines stillschweigenden Abkommens zwischen Russen, Türken und Syrern sagte der Sprecher von Präsident Erdogan laut der Tageszeitung The Daily Sabbah, dass Afrin nicht nach Syrien zurückkehren werde.
