Le risque de confrontation entre l'armée turque et l'armée syrienne s'accroît. Erdogan a déclaré, selon l'AFP, que la prochaine cible serait éa ville de Tell Rifaat à 40 kms au nord d'Alep : "Si Dieu le veut, nous ferons en sorte que cette opération atteigne son but en prenant le contrôle de Tal Rifaat d'ici peu", a déclaré M. Erdogan à Trabzon, sur la côte de la mer Noire". En prévision, l'armée syrienne déploie ses forces dans le nord de la région d'Alep, au sud d'Afrin. Selon South Front : " Selon des sources pro-gouvernementales, les forces gouvernementales syriennes, pour la plupart membres des Forces de défense nationale (FDN), se sont déployées dans les villages de Bashmra, Zoq al-Kabir, Buurj al-Qas. Miyasa, Aqiba et Ziyara ainsi que les points hauts proches au sud de la ville d'Afrin. Le déploiement des troupes gouvernementales vise à empêcher les avancées de l'armée turque et de ses supplétifs dans la région." Selon FNA, les médias russes ont rapporté que les forces kurdes seront forcées de se retirer de Manbij, Raqqa et de l'Euphrate oriental après l'occupation d'Afrin par Ankara et les militants alliés et à la suite d'un accord secret entre les Etats-Unis et la Turquie, Washington envisage d'étendre la mission en Syrie.
